"Government Is Preparing About 1.000 Data Centers
Jakarta, CyberNews. The Government through the Bappenas program working together with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) will construct about 1.000 centres for managing electronic data (telecenters) throughout the whole of Indonesia over the next five years.
"Telecenters are Internet-based centres for information resources which are hoped can help empower the poorer citizens in the backward fringe areas," reported the Project Director for Partnership for e-Prosperity for the Poor (Pe-PP), Bappenas, Agung Hardjono, to the press in Jakarta early this week.
According to Agung, the focus for this project Pe-PP is the poorer citizens whose economic activities include, amongst others, farmers, fishermen, traders, home-industries.
"The development of telecenters will identify potentials, conditions, and the peoples needs so that they can be provided with optimal services suitable with the specific needs of the users," said Agung. (ant/Cn08)"

 Partnerships for e-Prosperity for the Poor organized a national conference and exhibition with the theme “Development of Services and Information in Telecenters Through Partnerships for People in Remote Villages” on the 14-15th of December 2005 at the Hotel Arya Duta, Jakarta. This National Conference included speakers from Government departments, private sectors, donor agencies, public organizations, and other national and international participants who have had experience building and utilizing Information Communication Technology (ICT) for empowering citizens.
